MUTYA ng PIlipinas-Tourism International 2015 Janela Joy Pigon Cuaton arrived from Cambodia early morning of November 22 after competing at the 2016 Miss Tourism Metropolitan International Pageant where she won first runner-up honors from among 41 delegates worldwide.

“I’m so happy to be back home. It was a very wonderful experience to represent the Philippines at the international pageant, and although we did not get the top crown, I am content with my performance because I know deep in my heart that we gave them a good fight,” said the 19-year-old model who was based in Doha, Qatar before she joined Muta ng Pilipinas last year.

Janela was welcomed at NAIA 3 by her father Joy Cuaton, grandmother Teresita Arevalo (who came all the way from Daly City, California to watch the pageant in Cambodia), sister Joanna may and other relatives and friends, as well as select members of media.

Miss Thailand Chalisa Amanda Obdam won the coveted title with Misses Cambodia, Costa Rica and China completing the winning circle at the grand coronation night held at Nagaworld Entertainment Center in Phnom Penh last December 18.

Janela, who intends to take up a business course next semester, was originally scheduled to compete for Miss Tourism International last December 2015 but the pageant was postponed until she crowned her successor Justine May San Jose at the 48th Mutya ng Pilipinas finals last July.

Thanking her supporters for a commendable performance in Cambodia, janela also gave her best wishes to her fellow Mutya ng Pilipinas titleholders namely: Ganiel Akrisha Krishnan who is competing for the revived Miss Asia Pacific International Pageant at Sheridan beach Resort & Spa in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on November 23, Ashley Nicole Singh who will vie for Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International in Shanghai, China on December 18 (Laguna beauty Leren Bautista is the reigning queen), and San Jose who will go for the Miss Tourism International crown in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 31.

Janela is scheduled to be feted with a victory party by the Mutya ng Pilipinas organization this weekend.
